A science fiction prototype is a short story, movie, or comic with one or more main characters, based specifically on (scientific) facts for the purpose of exploring the implications, effects and ramifications of science or technology. It’s not about forecasting the future. Rather sci-fi prototyping allows us to creatively explore and iterate how technology and social developments can shape and be shaped by the people who use it and explore its implications on the everyday lives of people.

"A day in the life..” provides an excellent backbone for exploring the future implications of developments on the everyday life of people. We view the future worlds and their challenges through the experiences of the main protagonist. This can be a person, but other-than-human viewpoints are strongly encouraged.

AI image generations offers an approachable way to create visual images that explore what the future might look like. When prompted, AI text-to-image tools rarely conjure exactly what the creator had in mind, leading to a diverging exploration of the possible futures, their stories and artefacts.
